Get Served
In the new private stream-routing networks, the job of routing has moved from expensive, relatively dumb, inflexible switches to common, relatively inexpensive computing devices generally called servers. Expense aside, the value of using these common servers to the end user is immense. General innovations happen frequently for everyone and complete customization of solutions is a new possibility for those who need it.
What Is a Phone?
An advantage of private stream-routing networks is the removal of dependence on a particular type of access facility. An access facility for a phone call used to be a telephone and nothing else. Now it can be anything capable of decoding the media stream. Smartphones with softphone apps, computer-based softphones, advanced IP phones, analog converters for old phones, and even applications like CRM or web-based lead generators can make and receive calls and those calls can contain not only audio, but also video, images, and other types of data.
